Social Skills

Socialization is an integral part of treatment for children with special needs, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  The skills learned during direct ABA therapy can and should be applied in social settings and around peers.  Most treatment plans will include a social component.  Social skills groups allow your child the opportunity to learn socialization among peers also working on these and/or similar skills.  An XYZ team member facilitates this group and focuses on your child’s individual skills and deficits.  The social skills group will include various group exercises based on the needs of the children.  This can include greeting peers, asking questions, answering questions and playing.

Why Social Skills Groups ?

Learning and honing socialization skills in a  small group setting, and with a trained XYZ ABA team member, enhances these skills to allow your child to grow confidence in social settings.  Our social skills groups help teach these skills and integrate learned skills in a small group setting.  The goal is to learn in a FUN, judgement free, setting.  The principles and methods of ABA will be applied during the social skills group.  This may include reinforcing appropriate verbal behavior with positive praise, modeling behavior, verbally prompting actions, using visual schedules and using the idea of “first/then.”

These groups are open to current XYZ ABA clients as well as children who are not currently clients.  Please contact us to learn more about our social skills groups.
