Involving the whole family

A diagnosis of autism, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or any special need, affects the entire family.  At XYZ ABA, we believe that a whole family approach is incredibly important in allowing a child to reach their greatest potential.  Not only does ABA therapy benefit your child, the goal is to help you as well.  At home, your child may exhibit behaviors or skill deficits that you simply do not know how to deal with or how to approach the situation.  There are times that you may feel at a loss of how to handle tantrums, or with how to help your non-verbal child communicate.  Parent training teaches parents/caregivers the teaching methods and behavior interventions in the treatment plan and used during ABA sessions

Why Parent Training ?

Children may exhibit different behaviors when home alone with their family. We will help you learn how to handle these situations and work with you on feasible and realistic techniques that you can use within the home. We understand that the skills learned  during ABA sessions, and techniques used to teach these skills, should continue to be utilized even outside of these sessions.  Parent training allows allows you to feel more confident to apply this techniques when dealing with situations that you would otherwise feel confused about.  This is why we emphasize parent training as part of our ABA therapy and incorporate parent training in all treatment plans.

Consistency and generalization

Allowing parents to be trained on the programs used during direct ABA therapy, allows for consistency for your child.  Consistency is key for success in ABA.   Each treatment plan consists of schedules, including when to reinforce your child, and specific skill training techniques.  If these are not consistent, treatment could be negatively impacted.  Parent training promotes generalization, which refers to applying or using skills learned to different settings, in different times and with different people.
