Goal of in home/community ABA

ABA therapy can take place in the home and/or community settings.  The goal of ABA therapy at XYZ ABA is to broaden your child’s skill set.  ABA focuses on an array of skills, including daily living skills, self-help skills, verbal behavior, social, play, communication and behavior.  ABA focuses on working with your child to get as close to age appropriate skills as we can. ABA is not a one size fits all treatment.  Your child will have an individualized treatment plan based on your child’s needs. ABA therapy can include natural environment teaching, where skills are learned and reinforced in a naturalistic setting, and/or take place in a more contrived training setting.  It may start off at a desk and chair and, once skills are mastered in that setting, evolve into a more natural setting

Reinforcement

A large focus of ABA therapy is reinforcing appropriate behaviors.  We focus on what a child should do, not what they should not do.  When children engage in what they “should do,” they are reinforced, as opposed to punished for engaging in behavior they should not engage in.  Prior to treatment, preference assessments are conducted to determine what it is your child would prefer to “work for” during ABA sessions.  We recognize that this can change often, even within sessions.  Your child may work for various reinforcements throughout one session, chosen by your child.  A reinforcement schedule will be utilized to determine access to the reinforcement.

Clinical Team

A clinical team from XYZ ABA will work with your child in the home and/or community.  This team is comprised of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a Behavior Technician (BT).  The BCBA will initially meet with you and assess your child.  Based on these meetings and the assessment, the BCBA will create an individualized treatment plan, focusing on skill acquisition programs and may include a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), if needed for maladaptive behaviors.  The BCBA will train the BT on these programs and the BIP.  The BT will then conduct direct ABA therapy, under the supervision of the BCBA, with your child, following the treatment plan.  The BT will take data during each ABA session, this data will be graphed and analyzed by the BCBA.  Based on these graphs, programs and the BIP will be updated overtime, to evolve with the progress your child is making.  Please contact us to learn more about direct ABA therapy.
