ABA Therapy
What is ABA ?
Applied Behavior Analysis, simply put, is the science of behavior. ABA applies scientifically proven methodologies to help increase socially significant behaviors. The science focuses on reinforcing these behaviors, to help them increase over time. ABA can be applied to people diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), to those with varying special needs and those without. In other words, ABA can be used with anyone. ABA is the leading and most widely accepted therapy for people diagnosed with ASD. ABA is often used to increase skills across various domains, as well as increase appropriate replacement behaviors to maladaptive, or troubling, behaviors.

The science reaches people by assessing their needs, deficits, preferences and functions (or reasons) of behavior. No two people are the same, and these assessments allow for individualized and custom treatment. There is not just one ABA teaching or training methodology. ABA trainings span a wide range, from discrete trial training (teaching a skill by breaking it into parts and teaching the parts in a highly structured environment) to natural environment training, and incorporate many techniques, including positive reinforcement, reinforcement schedules, visual schedules, prompting, prompt fading, escape extinction and planned ignoring. ABA is fluid, meaning the programs and strategies used with your child will change over time, as your child acquires new skills and progresses through the treatment plan.
